About Victoria AM Association

Our History

While we are best known for our costumed greeters who welcome cruise ship visitors at the Ogden Point terminal, our roots stretch back to 1984 when we established ourselves as a community minded business association.  As such, VicAM has contributed and enhanced the local experience in a wide variety of ways.

We installed ‘Welcome to Victoria’ signs on the two main highway entrances to our city and at the Victoria International Airport.

We commissioned a bronze statue of a town crier from local sculptor Armando Barbon; it stands as a symbol of welcome at Ogden Point.

We've established bursaries at local colleges and awarded scholarships annually to support students of tourism, music and horticulture programs.

We've supported local charities such as the Breast Cancer Institute, Woodwynn Farms and the Children's Hospital.

And, of course, the volunteers of VicAM have been dressing in Victorian costume and greeting the passengers of cruise ships since 1984. Passengers from around the world are surprised and delighted at the friendly - and unique! - welcome they receive at Victoria's Ogden Point.

VicAM Today

Victoria AM Association is a growing and vibrant organization.  Our history reflects our roots but our activities today bring our core mission into the 21st century.

At Ogden Point

Our greeters continue to welcome guests to our island as they arrive at Ogden Point.  We provide a friendly smile and helpful information ensuring the visitor experience starts off on the right foot.

Beginning in 2014 we will explore other points of entry including the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, the Victoria International Aiport, and the Steamship Terminal in the Inner Harbour.

Out On The Town

Our greeters are also visible downtown.  There we establish a friendly face for cruise ship customers who have already met us at Ogden point as well as adding colour to the downtown experience.

We also participate in a wide variety of civic events including parades, the Victoria Annual Flower Count, the Dragon Boat Festival and many others.

At Local Charities

Victoria AM Association believes that good business starts with being good.  As such, we contribute to local charities by lending our greeters and planners to their events.
